      Under the supervision of the Emergency Services Manager, performs related duties and functions in support of the Office of Emergency Services' mission to serve the City of Inglewood through effective collaboration in preparing for, protecting against, responding to, recovering from, and mitigating the impacts of all hazards and threats. The below list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class. Incumbents in this class may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks.

      TASKS :
      • Develop and implement emergency response plans, procedures, and protocols to ensure the community's readiness for various types of emergencies and disasters.
      • Organize and deliver training programs to educate government officials, city staff, emergency personnel, and the public on emergency preparedness measures, response protocols, and disaster management techniques. This involves conducting drills, workshops, and seminars to enhance preparedness and response capabilities.
      • During emergencies or disasters, serve as a point of contact for coordinating response and recovery activities. This includes activation of the City's Emergency Operations Center (EOC), monitoring the situation, providing guidance to response teams, and ensuring that emergency plans are executed effectively to protect lives, property, and the environment.
      • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government officials, first responders, community leaders, and partner organizations, to foster cooperation, collaboration, and information sharing during emergencies.
      • Actively participating in community fairs, events, and educational activities in support of the City's emergency preparedness goals.
      • In the case of an emergency or disaster, must be available 24-hours a day, seven days a week.
        KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS :
        • Knowledgeable of ICS, NIMS, and EOC systems, practices, and concepts; applicable City, county, state, and federal statutes, rules, ordinances, codes, regulations and other governing laws and regulations, organizational planning and analysis principles, customer service techniques, and concepts, and research, budget and grant management principles and techniques;
        • Skilled in preparing business reports, letters, plans, agreements, and memorandums, responding quickly to changing situations, and establishing and maintaining productive working relationships with both internal and external customers; managing social media, webpage and other media outlets with accuracy and time constraints;
        • Ability to: exercise sound judgment in performing essential duties, effectively problem-solve day-to-day program-related needs, issues, and concerns; prioritize, delegate, and monitor staff work assignments; prepare well-organized and accurate documents such as reports, memos, and correspondence; synthesize ideas and factual information into clear and logical written statements; demonstrate fiscal responsibility in decision making;
        • Proficient in using work-related computer applications, including e-mail, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, the internet, and other electronic devices to perform essential job duties.
        • Bilingual English / Spanish is highly desired.

          QUALIFICATIONS :

          Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university providing knowledge in emergency management or a related field AND (3) three years of progressively responsible experience coordinating a disaster preparedness program, activities, and public speaking.
