Job Description:
Cathay Bank’s Fund Finance Group (“FFG”) provides lending, both
direct and as a participant, and ancillary banking
products/services to private equity funds and their investment
management sponsors. The Funds Finance Group develops relationships
with other bank lenders, financial asset management and private
equity investment and securities brokerage firms. The role of the
SVP/FVP is to support the continued growth and development of the
Funds Finance Group and will be perceived both internally and
externally as an expert in the area of fund exposure. DIRECT
REPORTS Initially the incumbent will not have direct reports but
may be assigned to manage selected support staff within the Funds
Finance Group. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS • Originate and support in
developing and providing lending, treasury management, interest
rate derivatives, foreign exchange, deposits, and related products
linked to Financial Sponsors and their funds. Efforts include
originating subscription lending/capital call facilities and
related credit, deposit and other services, assessing the market
opportunity and when needed assisting in the underwriting of deals.
• Develop potential new client relationships with Financial
Sponsors, leading the dialogue with the clients, maximizing
cross-selling opportunities, and reinforcing long-term
relationships. RM will have a specific new loan
commitment/outstanding goal set by their Team Manager every year. •
Interact with Credit Administration to successfully obtain the
appropriate approvals. Build and maintain strong relationships with
internal business partners. • Act as an effective first line of
defense to filter risks and avoid unwanted exposure. • Conduct due
diligence calls or visits where/when appropriate. • Prepare concept
memos for new opportunities which identify risk and provide credit
analysis. Articulate a convincing case in support of the risk
opinion. • Present to credit committees. • Meet with senior
management of client and potential client firms to maintain credit
relationships and identify credit-related and other business
opportunities. • Maintain contact with lead banks in which the Fund
Finance Group is a participant. • Assist in the development of
credit policy and risk management standards, procedures, and
processes for the type of risks mentioned. • Prepare various
portfolio analytical reports and presentations; stay connected with
industry trends and macro issues which may impact the portfolio;
recommend changes or action impacting specific clients or groups of
clients. • Portfolio management functions include monitoring and
managing the credit quality of the assigned loan portfolio.
QUALIFICATIONS • Education: BS Degree in business or related
discipline preferred. MBA and/or CFA a plus. • Experience: •
Minimum of 7-10 years’ commercial lending and banking experience
with thorough knowledge of lending regulations and
credit/underwriting practices. • Proven experience selling fund
risk products to financial sponsors specifically subscription
lending/capital call commitments. • Experience in marketing
structured and corporate finance products. • Knowledge of the risks
in developing internal assessment tools and in the management of
the portfolio. • Familiarity with rating methodology and credit
models for the financial sponsors direct risks. • Familiarity with
complex organizations and multiple interfaces and geographies.
International experience and/or experience in working in
cross-border transactions will be a plus. • Skills/Ability:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent
organizational and time management skills to deal with multiple and
sometimes conflicting demands and time constraints. Excellent
adaptability and flexibility to deal with a changing environment.
Well-developed problem-solving and decision-making skills. Apply
diverse methodologies and deep experience in a variety of
disciplines to identify and solve complex and/or undefined risk
problems. Knowledge of credit risk monitoring systems and
methodologies for financial sponsors direct exposure. Ability to
think abstractly and project various what-if scenarios.
Self-starter and Team Player with ability to work with credit
administrators/Chief Credit Officer and credit committee members as
well as staff across the Corporate Banking Division. Strong people
manager, leader, and coach – leads by example.
