Our dedicated and passionate employees have helped our organization become one of Southern California's most innovative and progressive child development organizations, serving nearly 9,000 children throughout the San Gabriel Valley.About this positionThis position works within the organization's cross-functional Finance Department that oversees the accounting responsibilities for multiple state and federally funded programs across the San Gabriel Valley. The director of payroll oversees the day-to-day operations of the payroll team. This position is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll for employees, compliance with relevant regulations, and fostering a positive and inclusive work environment. The successful candidate must be able to communicate effectively, work both independently and collaboratively within a small, close-knit team, and thrive in a fast-paced environment. We are looking for someone with an upbeat, positive attitude who is eager to support the organization's mission and achieve its strategic goals.What you'll be doing

  • Hiring, supervising, training and managing payroll accountants;
  • Overseeing the end-to-end payroll process, including data collection, timekeeping and payroll distribution;
  • Ensuring accuracy and timeliness in processing payroll transactions for all employees;
  • Collaborating with HR and Finance Departments to gather necessary information for payroll processing;
  • Staying updated on federal, state and local payroll laws and regulations affecting the organization;
  • Ensuring compliance with tax regulations, wage and hour laws, and other relevant payroll-related legislation;
  • Preparing and submitting payroll tax filings and reports;
  • Maintaining accurate and confidential payroll records for all employees;
  • Preparing and generating payroll reports for management review;
  • Conducting regular audits to ensure data integrity and compliance;
  • Providing guidance and support to employees on payroll matters;
  • Collaborating with other departments to address payroll-related issues and implement improvements;
  • Coordinating with benefits administrators to ensure accurate and timely processing of benefits deductions and contributions;
  • Collaborating with HR to implement and communicate changes in benefits packages;
  • Conducting training sessions for employees on payroll-related matters;
  • Staying informed about industry best practices and recommend improvements to payroll processes;
  • Utilizing and maintaining payroll software systems for efficient and accurate payroll processing;
  • Implementing and improving payroll-related processes and systems as needed;
  • Performing other duties as assigned.What you bring to the table
    • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, finance, human resources or a related field (Master's degree preferred);
    • At least 7 years of accounting or fiscal experience (10+ years preferred);
    • Strong mathematical and analytical skills;
    • Computer literacy and proficiency in payroll software and Microsoft Office applications, with intermediate to advanced skills in Excel;
    • Ability to function well in a team environment and understand different perspectives;
    • Previous leadership experience (preferred).What we can offer you

        • Full-time, twelve-month work year;
        • Eight-hour workday;
        • Alternating Fridays off (every Friday off beginning July 2024);

        • Limited evening or weekend hours may be required;
        • Employment, responsibilities, compensation and other factors may be affected by changes in governmental regulations, the organization's contracts, or at organization discretion.Salary
